Silk Road Revisited-Greenstone/2016/watercolor on paper/ 198cm×118cm

In both New Zealand and China, jade is a treasure, and it is called "greenstone" or "pounamu". This painting of a greenstone pendant has a world "carved" within it; it depicts the old Silk Road, from mountains, through deserts, and over oceans, bringing trade, knowledge, understanding and peace to the known world. Various cultures are each represented by their distinctive architectures. As it goes forward into a new Silk Road era, this small talisman reminds how much people have gained from relationships with each other.
